ISIS Confessions; Planned to Attack Khalil Haqqani in Balochistan, Pakistan

In this video footage, an individual who identifies himself as "Hamza" claims that he planned the operation against Haqqani and directed it from Pakistan's Balochistan. He says the suicide bomber for this attack was trained in the same region "with the support of Pakistani officials."

Haqqani, who was one of the key figures in the Haqqani network within the Taliban's structure, was killed last year in an explosion at the Ministry of Refugees, and ISIS-Khorasan claimed responsibility for it. Analysts say his death has weakened the position of this network and the influence of Sirajuddin Haqqani in the Taliban's leadership.

This is not the first time the Taliban has released confessions attributed to ISIS members; independent institutions say it's unclear under what conditions these confessions were obtained and raise the possibility of torture.

The release of this latest video also comes amid escalating tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan; the two sides accuse each other of supporting insurgent groups.

Media outlets close to the Taliban have released a video of a purported confession from one of ISIS's members, coinciding with the anniversary of the killing of Khalil al-Rahman Haqqani, the former minister of refugees for the group.
