Two Congressmen: Rubio Promised to Deny US Aid to Taliban-Working NGOs

Tim Burchett and Anna Paulina Luna stated that the transfer of funds through these entities will be officially terminated.

Burchett once again urged the Senate to pass a bill that would completely restrict the Taliban's access to U.S. humanitarian aid, although the U.S. government denies sending direct money to the Taliban.

The U.S. State Department has emphasized that taxpayer funds should not be used to strengthen the Taliban and has criticized the United Nations for failing to implement sufficient safeguard mechanisms to prevent aid from reaching the Taliban.

This action comes as nearly four billion dollars in humanitarian and development aid has been sent to Afghanistan since the Taliban's return, and some critics say that part of this aid reaches the Taliban indirectly. Halting the aid has also raised concerns about providing essential resources for Afghanistan's vulnerable population, especially women and children.

Two Republican members of the U.S. Congress announced that during a meeting with Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, he pledged to halt funding to non-governmental organizations that may transfer U.S. government funds to the Taliban.
