Islamabad and London discuss relocation of Afghan refugees

This meeting took place on Friday between Talal Chaudhry, Deputy Minister of Interior of Pakistan, and Baroness Chapman, Deputy Foreign Minister of the United Kingdom.

According to reports from Pakistani media, the transfer of Afghan refugees to the United Kingdom was one of the main topics of these discussions. Both sides also emphasized strengthening bilateral cooperation in the areas of preventing human trafficking and managing migration.

The Deputy Minister of Interior of Pakistan, during this meeting, called for accelerating the process of transferring Afghan refugees. This request comes at a time when the UK Home Office has rejected asylum applications from more than six thousand Afghan citizens residing in Pakistan by the end of June this year.

In addition, the disclosure of information about Afghan refugees in 2022 by one of the employees of the UK Ministry of Defence has put the lives of tens of thousands of Afghan citizens who collaborated with British forces at risk. Currently, thousands of Afghan refugees in Pakistan are awaiting transfer and resettlement.

The media outlet "Pakistan Today" reported that this meeting took place amid high-level relations between Islamabad and London, with the volume of bilateral trade exceeding 5.5 billion pounds. Baroness Chapman described Pakistan as the UK's "important partner" and emphasized joint cooperation to combat illegal migration.

Pakistani and British officials held discussions on security issues, migration, and developments related to Afghanistan during a meeting.
