Meeting of Special Representatives of Regional Countries on Afghanistan Begins in Tehran

This conference is being held under the title "Meeting of the Special Representatives of Afghanistan's Neighboring Countries and Russia."

Abbas Araghchi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, stated in the opening speech of this meeting that security, development, and prosperity in Afghanistan are directly linked to the interests of all neighboring countries. He emphasized that establishing regular dialogue mechanisms among Afghanistan's neighboring countries is a strategic necessity.

Iran's Foreign Minister added that these meetings can prevent misunderstandings from arising and provide the groundwork for coordinating policies and programs in economic, border, and humanitarian areas. According to him, such dialogues will help strengthen mutual understanding, bring viewpoints closer together, and reduce tensions among the countries of the region.

Abbas Araghchi also stated that no "extra-regional prescription" is capable of resolving regional crises, and imported decision-making and solutions will not lead to lasting stability in the countries of the region.

In another part of his remarks, he emphasized expanding regional economic cooperation with Afghanistan and said that improving conditions in this country could transform Afghanistan into a connecting link between Central Asia and South Asia, as well as West Asia and the Asia-Pacific region, paving the way for energy transit and expanding regional trade.

The meeting of the special representatives of regional countries on Afghanistan began on Sunday, 23 Qaws (December 13), in Tehran. In this meeting, the special representatives of Russia, Pakistan, China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan are present. The Taliban have not participated in this meeting.
