$1 million a day; Closing of border with Pakistan threatens Afghan economy

The Council has warned that if fundamental issues are ignored, the risk of serious military conflict breaking out between the two sides will increase.

The Security Council has also rejected the Taliban's claim of the absence of terrorist groups in the country, describing it as "invalid." According to the report of the UN Sanctions Monitoring Committee, member states consistently confirm that various terrorist groups remain active in Afghanistan.

The report references the presence of groups such as ISIS-Khorasan, Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, Al-Qaeda, the East Turkestan Islamic Movement, Jamaat Ansarullah, and the Pakistan Mujahideen Alliance.

The Sanctions Monitoring Committee has further stated that the orders of Hibatullah Akhundzada, the Taliban's leader, are not uniformly enforced across the country, and certain powerful leaders, including members of the Haqqani network, possess extensive operational autonomy and can implement their own decisions without fully adhering to directives.

The United Nations Security Council states in a report that the closure of border crossings between Afghanistan and Pakistan, stemming from tensions between the Taliban and Pakistani authorities, inflicts approximately one million dollars in damage to Afghanistan's economy every day.
