Uzbekistan announces discovery and seizure of drugs originating from Afghanistan

According to this agency, the drugs were being transported in a vehicle that was stopped by security agents on one of the country's routes.

Based on the published information, the seized drugs had been smuggled from Afghanistan and, after entering Uzbekistan, were hidden in a warehouse in the city of Bukhara. Security forces, following intelligence investigations, succeeded in identifying and confiscating this shipment.

Uzbekistani authorities have stated that the individuals involved in this case have been arrested and, if their guilt is proven, will face punishment of up to 20 years in prison.

Uzbekistani security officials have not provided further details regarding the type of drugs or the exact number of detainees; however, they have emphasized that combating drug trafficking, especially via routes from Afghanistan, is among this country's security priorities.

The Uzbekistani Security Service announced on Wednesday that it had discovered and seized approximately five kilograms of drugs originating from Afghanistan.
