Pakistani leader linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba: We stand with the army against the Afghan Taliban

Sheikh, who was sanctioned in 2012 by the U.S. Treasury Department due to his membership in Lashkar-e-Taiba's Central Council, welcomed the actions of Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan, to mobilize the country's religious scholars for the "defense of the country," saying this move has won the trust of the clergy. He also referred to a fatwa issued by some Afghan religious scholars that prohibits the use of this country's soil to attack other nations.


The leader of Pakistan's Central Muslim League emphasized that the Afghan Taliban must guarantee that not even a single bullet will be fired against Pakistan, and if this condition is met, relations between the two countries will improve. Pakistan accuses the Taliban of harboring Pakistani militants to carry out actions against Pakistan from Afghan soil—an accusation the Taliban have consistently denied.


Sheikh's recent statements indicate that the Pakistani army is seeking to increase pressure on the Afghan Taliban by mobilizing religious narratives and militant groups. Previous negotiations between the two sides in Qatar, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia to resolve disputes have so far yielded no results, and tensions in the border areas have led to the killing and wounding of dozens of people.

Mohammad Yaqoob Sheikh, a leader of Pakistan's Central Muslim League party, which is linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, announced that if the Taliban do not guarantee they will not use Afghan soil against Pakistan, his party and the people of his country will stand alongside the army.
