Germany says it will relocate over 500 Afghan refugees in Pakistan within the next two weeks

Alexander Dobrindt said the German government is striving to finalize the review of their cases as much as possible by the end of December, though it is likely that processing a small number of cases will be deferred to next year. These refugees have been in limbo for quite some time.

Some of those included in this transfer were former colleagues of German institutions in Afghanistan, while others consist of individuals at risk, including journalists and human rights activists.

Pakistan, which over the past year has initiated a widespread deportation process for Afghan migrants, has urged Western countries, including Germany, to relocate refugees with admission pledges as quickly as possible. The German Interior Minister stated that discussions with Pakistani authorities are ongoing.

At the same time, Germany's new government has not accepted all Afghan citizens residing in Pakistan, and according to reports, applications from hundreds of individuals holding admission pledges have been rejected.

The German Interior Minister announced that the country intends to relocate 535 Afghan refugees with admission pledges from Pakistan to Germany by the end of December, within roughly the next two weeks. According to him, the risk of these refugees being deported from Pakistan has accelerated the transfer process.
