Pakistani media reported the arrest of a key member of ISIS Khorasan by the ISI

Pakistani media have reported that this arrest took place several months ago, in May (Thour), when Azam entered Pakistani territory.

Pakistani media have announced that officials of this country have informed the United Nations Security Council of Azam's arrest, and the matter has been included in the Council's latest report. Pakistani security sources have described him as "the second-in-command of ISKP and the main person responsible for the group's media section."

Pakistan's state television has described Azam's arrest as a significant blow to the leadership structure of ISKP. Sultan Aziz Azam, born in 1978 in Nangarhar, had been in charge of ISKP's Al-Azaim Media Network and played a key role in the group's propaganda, recruitment, and promotion of its extremist ideology.

Reports indicate that Azam joined ISKP in 2016 and was designated an international terrorist by the United States in November 2021. Before joining the group, he had worked at three local radio stations and published literary works such as books and poetry.

The United Nations Security Council, in its report, emphasized that Azam "played a key role in spreading IS's violent ideology and has praised and justified terrorist acts."

To date, ISKP has not reacted to this news.

Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has arrested Sultan Aziz Azam, a key member and spokesperson of the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), at the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.
