Zelensky: We support the US proposal for trilateral talks

Zelenskyy told reporters in Kyiv that Rostyslav Omruff, Ukraine's senior negotiator, had briefed him on the latest talks held on Friday with U.S. officials in the United States.

He added that a new round of negotiations is scheduled for Saturday, with a focus on Ukraine's postwar reconstruction. Kirill Dmitriev, Russia's special representative, has also been in Miami for talks with U.S. officials.

Ukraine's president said the United States has now raised the proposal for trilateral talks at the level of national security advisors. He added: "If such a meeting can be held now and provide an opportunity for prisoner-of-war exchanges and a leaders' meeting, I cannot oppose it. We support such a proposal. We'll have to see how things develop."

Zelenskyy also said Ukraine supports proposals that would "preserve the line of contact" in its current state, without forcing the country to relinquish areas it still holds, particularly in the industrial Donbas region in eastern Ukraine.

He stressed that Ukraine and its European allies must continue to support the current U.S.-led peace talks; a format that, in his words, "is worth fighting for." At the same time, he added: "If this process doesn't yield results, we'll all have to think about other options."

Meanwhile, Ukraine and Russia have not held face-to-face negotiations since July; however, shuttle diplomacy backed by the United States to end Ukraine's nearly four-year war has intensified in recent weeks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Saturday, December 20, that Ukraine would support the U.S. proposal for trilateral talks among the United States, Ukraine, and Russia if it helps facilitate more prisoner-of-war exchanges and paves the way for a meeting of the countries' leaders.
