Unusual marriage; Sources: Man in Kandahar marries 17-year-old daughter to Chinese man

According to the sources, this marriage took place in exchange for receiving 1.5 million afghanis, and the daughter's father's economic hardships have been cited as the main factors behind this decision.


Based on the information provided, the father of the Chinese groom arrived in Kandahar about eight years ago and converted to Islam five years ago.


It is said that he initially chose the name "Aftab" for himself; but later changed his name to "Mohammad Omar." Sources say that his son, who has now married the 17-year-old Kandahari girl, is named "Hammad."


This marriage has also sparked reactions on social media. Some users, expressing concern, have said that paying large sums for marriage can make the situation of poor families even more difficult. Others have pointed to similar cases of Chinese citizens marrying in parts of Pakistan and said that such marriages have faced challenges in some instances.


The Taliban have not yet issued an official reaction regarding the details of this marriage.

Local sources in Kandahar province say that a resident of the Registan district of this province has married off his 17-year-old daughter to a Chinese citizen who recently converted to Islam.
