Express Tribune: Clash between Pakistani Taliban and Jamaat-ul-Ahrar leaves 22 dead

According to the Express Tribune, tensions escalated when the TTP's central council decided to take disciplinary action against several Jamaat-ul-Ahrar commanders and demand that the group surrender its weapons. These disputes ultimately led to armed clashes between the two sides.


Local sources have said that tribal elders held a jirga in the area to contain the crisis; however, the meeting, instead of reducing tensions, resulted in an exchange of fire and direct clashes between members of the two groups.


In the aftermath of this incident, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar has announced that it will not let the killing of its members go unanswered. The group split from the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan in 2014 and is now listed as a "terrorist" organization by the United Nations.


In a separate incident, security sources have reported the killing of "Jan Mir," known as "Tur Saqib." According to these sources, he was killed along with about 30 of his fighters in a recent military operation in the Shawal and Spinkai Raghzai areas of North Waziristan. He is said to have specialized in making explosives and improvised bombs and was a well-known figure in the combat activities of these groups.

The Express Tribune has reported that deadly clashes between the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a splinter faction of this group, in the Kurram region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province have left at least 22 people dead. According to the report, 19 members of Jamaat-ul-Ahrar and three members of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan were killed in these clashes.
