Afghan girls to Guterres: We don't want to be victims of the world

In this letter, prepared by groups of Afghan girls both inside and outside the country, it is emphasized that women and girls are facing extensive deprivation from education, work, freedom of movement, and social participation, and this situation has impacted the lives of millions of people.

One of the highlighted sections of this letter states: "We do not want to be victims of the world's silence." The authors of the letter have called on the United Nations to increase diplomatic pressure on the ruling authorities in Afghanistan, prevent restrictive policies against women and girls, pursue girls' right to education as a fundamental human right, and provide the framework for support and safe relocation of individuals at risk.

Afghan girls have warned in this letter that the continuation of the current situation means "the gradual erasure of a generation from education and the future." According to them, the deprivation of girls from education and the widespread restrictions on women's presence in various social spheres will have profound consequences for the country's future.

At the end of this letter, Afghan girls have expressed their message as follows: "We only want education and a normal life. We want our voices to be heard, not to be forgotten in the silence of the world."

A number of Afghan girls and women, in an open letter addressed to António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, have urged the international community not to remain silent in the face of the human rights situation in Afghanistan and to take concrete action to end the widespread restrictions against women and girls.
