Afghan women protest against Taliban in Spain

The protesters, by chanting slogans, emphasized that the Taliban cannot be considered a partner for peace and that this group is responsible for the widespread violation of women's rights in Afghanistan.


This protest took place amid reports of a possible invitation for a Taliban technical delegation to Brussels to discuss the process of deporting Afghan migrants from European countries. The European Commission has not yet confirmed an official invitation to the Taliban delegation; however, it has confirmed the conduct of technical discussions with this group regarding the return of migrants lacking legal residency.


Afghan protesters in Spain, through the issuance of a resolution, condemned any invitation, hosting, or official engagement with the Taliban in European institutions. They warned that such actions could lead to the normalization and legitimization of the Taliban's administration.


In this resolution, the European Parliament was urged to refrain from any actions that provide political legitimacy to the Taliban and to stand alongside Afghan women. The protesters emphasized that the situation of women in Afghanistan must not be overlooked in political and diplomatic interactions.


Participants in this gathering also called on the international community to focus on holding this group accountable, rather than providing a platform for the Taliban, and to take practical actions to end what they called the "gender apartheid" in Afghanistan.

A number of Afghan women residing in Spain gathered in front of the European Parliament office in Madrid to protest reports about the potential dialogue between European officials and the Taliban.
