Iran-US talks end in Oman; Both sides evaluate talks positively

Donald Trump, President of the United States, described the negotiations as "very good" and said Iran apparently wants to reach an agreement. He added: "We will have to see what this agreement will be."


These negotiations, held in Oman, were the first round of discussions between the two countries since last summer's tensions in the region. Both sides have announced that they will continue the talks.


Abbas Araghchi, Iran's Foreign Minister, had stated before the start of the negotiations that his country "enters diplomacy with eyes wide open and with a firm memory of last year" and wrote on social media: "We enter the talks in good faith and firmly defend our rights."


Despite Trump's positive assessment of the negotiations, tensions remain ongoing. Before the talks, he had said that the leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, "should be very worried." Trump also announced that a large American fleet is heading toward Iran and will soon arrive in the region.

Indirect talks between representatives of Iran and the United States concluded on Friday, February 6, in Oman.
