The Taliban asked mosque imams to invite people to obey the "legitimate emir."

The Taliban refers to Hibatullah Akhundzada, the leader of the group, as "Amir al-Mu'minin" and considers obedience to his commands obligatory. Akhundzada also stated this year during the month of Thawr (May) that obeying his orders is akin to obeying God and the Prophet, and disobeying his directives constitutes "religious disobedience."

In his Eid al-Adha speech as well, he deemed it obligatory for Muslims to have an "emir" and said that anyone who dies without pledging allegiance and obedience to the emir dies, in his view, in a state of "jahiliyyah" (pre-Islamic ignorance).

In another section of the sermon, imams have been asked to encourage people to avoid war and conflict, and to promote mercy, forgiveness, and pardon. The text also emphasizes that Muslims should not seek revenge against their enemies and that power should be used for reform, not vengeance. These recommendations come as a video recently surfaced showing the killing of a young man in Herat, with relatives of Abdul Qadir Pahlawan-Zada, a Taliban police official, accusing him of involvement in the murder. Taliban police later announced the arrest of suspects in the case.

Meanwhile, over the past five years, Taliban forces have killed a number of former Afghan military personnel—a matter that the group's spokesperson has largely attributed to personal enmities. The Taliban's Ministry of Guidance, Hajj, and Endowments is emphasizing forgiveness and non-revenge even as the group continues to urge mosque imams to call on people to obey the Taliban leader.

The Taliban's Ministry of Guidance, Hajj, and Endowments has asked mosque imams to urge people in Friday prayer sermons to obey the "legitimate emir." The ministry stated in the text of the Friday sermon for 20 Asad (September 11) that defying the emir's orders will lead to defeat for Muslims.
