Clashes continue in Badakhshan; Sources report repelling Taliban attack in Zibak district

These clashes began around midday on Thursday in the Topkhana area, when anti-Taliban forces attacked several of the group's outposts. Sources had previously stated that the Taliban, in response to this attack, dispatched a large number of their forces to the scene to counter it. The group also airlifted its commandos to the area by helicopter and sent additional reinforcements overland to the battlefield. According to sources, a number of wounded Taliban fighters were also transferred by helicopter to the city of Fayzabad.


Sources say that after the raid by opposing forces, the Taliban began clearance operations. They have also cut off the region's communication antennas to prevent contact.


Based on information from sources, three local Taliban commanders have been killed in these clashes. Faridullah Wahdat, commander of Block One at one of the Taliban's border outposts, is among those killed. At the same time, sources confirm that anti-Taliban forces have also suffered casualties; however, no details on the number of their victims have been released.


Taliban officials in Corps 219 Omar Third have confirmed the occurrence of an attack by opposing forces on Taliban positions in Zibak district of Badakhshan province. According to them, during the clash with forces from Border Corps 15, five opposing fighters were killed and several others wounded. However, Taliban officials have provided no details on potential casualties among their own forces.

Local sources in Badakhshan province say that the fighting on Friday between the Taliban and forces opposing the group in Zibak district is still ongoing. According to these sources, the Taliban launched a large-scale artillery assault last evening to retake lost positions in the Topkhana area; however, this attack was repelled by the resistance of opposing forces, who managed to push it back.
