Zabihullah Mujahid: Ban Mahmud Shah did not take Habibi Tal and we do not know his fate

Mr. Mujahid told Ariana News on Tuesday, 20 Asad, that Habibi is not in Taliban custody and added: "We have no information about Mahmoud Shah Habibi. He is not with the Taliban. If he were, this issue would have been resolved long ago."


These remarks come as the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has previously accused the Taliban's intelligence agency of abducting Habibi. According to a statement from the agency, the Taliban, in the month of Asad 1401, pulled Habibi and his driver out of their vehicle and detained them along with 29 other employees of the telecommunications company "Asia Consulting Group" in Kabul.


The U.S. Chargé d'Affaires has also stated, on the fourth anniversary of Habibi's disappearance, that Washington will take the necessary actions to resolve this case and secure his release. The United States has further offered a reward of up to five million dollars for information leading to the location of Habibi and his return.


Mahmoud Shah Habibi remained in the country after the fall of the previous Afghan government. He had traveled abroad three months before his disappearance and vanished four days after returning to Kabul. The Taliban had previously denied reports of his detention as well.

Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesman, says that this group has not detained Mahmoud Shah Habibi, an Afghan-American citizen and former head of Afghanistan's Civil Aviation Authority, and has no information about his fate either.
