Denmark extradites Afghan suspected of spying for Iran to Germany

The man's identity has not been disclosed, and his detention was carried out at the request of German prosecutors. German authorities accuse him of being involved in a case related to Iranian intelligence activities and the planning of attacks on Jewish targets.


The Aarhus District Court announced last week that the legal conditions for extraditing this Afghan have been met. The accused has decided not to challenge the extradition order, and the handover process is expected to take place in the coming days.


This case is connected to a previous incident involving a 53-year-old Afghan-Danish man who had previously been extradited to Germany. According to the indictment, the 42-year-old man had promised to provide weapons for a third party and encouraged him to carry out an attack against Jews. The accused has denied these charges and stated that he has "no knowledge" of the matter.


Danish police have stated that the man's detention was carried out based on a German warrant and that German officers were present during the operation. Denmark's intelligence service has also said that this case is part of Iran's extensive espionage network in Europe targeting opponents and Jewish targets.


Finn Borch Andersen, head of Denmark's intelligence service, referring to Iran's use of intermediaries and criminal networks for violent actions, said: "We take this threat very seriously." Additionally, during the detention operation, other residences in the Trige area and north of Aarhus were searched.

Danish authorities have announced that a 42-year-old Afghan man who was detained in the country two months ago will soon be handed over to Germany. This individual is suspected of spying for the Islamic Republic of Iran and participating in the planning of an attack against the Jewish community in Germany.
