Global Peace Index; Afghanistan ranked among the six most unsafe countries in the world

In this report, Afghanistan has been introduced, alongside countries such as Yemen, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sudan, Russia, and Ukraine, as the most unsafe countries.


The Institute for Economics and Peace has stated that although the amount of armed conflicts has decreased following the Taliban's takeover; however, weaknesses in governance, humanitarian crises, and structural problems have caused the continuation of instability and political unrest in Afghanistan.


The findings of this report, which was published on Saturday, the sixth of Jadi (January), show that Afghanistan is considered the most unsafe country in South Asia. Easy access of groups and irresponsible individuals to weapons, an increase in violent crimes, political instability, and a widespread wave of internal and external migration have been cited as the main factors for this country's low ranking in the Global Peace Index.


In this report, the concept of insecurity is not limited only to military conflicts, and indicators such as social security, the level of government militarization, and the extent of internal and external tensions have also been considered in the assessment of peace.


Additionally, citizens' access to public services, especially health services, has been raised as one of the important elements of social peace.


The Institute for Economics and Peace has warned that the reduction in foreign aid has exacerbated the existing crises in Afghanistan. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 80 percent of this organization's health services in Afghanistan have been reduced due to budget shortages, which has had a direct impact on the country's human situation.


In another section of the report, it is stated that Afghanistan remains one of the four main countries of origin for refugees in the world. The lack of economic opportunities, security concerns, restrictions imposed on women, and the widespread expulsion of Afghan migrants from neighboring countries have placed even greater pressure on Afghanistan's fragile economic and service structures.

According to a recent report by an international research institution, Afghanistan has been placed among the six most unsafe countries in the world.
