Mohsen Rezaei: Agreement with the US is tied to the release of $24 billion in Iranian assets

Mr. Rezaei stated on Friday in Tehran that negotiations between the two sides have reached a deadlock, and breaking out of this situation depends on actions by the US government. According to him, it is now up to Donald Trump to make the decision to break the existing impasse.


He also warned that any resumption of hostilities by the United States could lead to dangerous consequences. Rezaei said that if war were to resume, Washington would enter a "dark and perilous path."


According to reports, Iran wants $12 billion of the country's frozen assets to be released simultaneously with the signing of a temporary agreement, and another $12 billion to be made available to Tehran in the next phase. Rezaei described this request as a confidence-building measure and said that the release of these financial resources could pave the way for a new chapter in Iran-US relations.


He added that this $24 billion serves as a test to gauge trust between the two sides and emphasized that these assets belong to Iran, not the United States. Rezaei also addressed the possibility of a meeting between Donald Trump and Iran's leader, stating that no such meeting is currently on the table because negotiations are still in their early stages and, as he put it, the dialogue process is at a standstill.


These remarks come as Trump recently stated that he seems to have good relations with Iran's leader and described a meeting with him as an "honor." In closing, Rezaei once again warned that if hostilities are resumed by the United States, Iran will expand the scope of the war beyond the Persian Gulf region.
