UN Secretary-General announces she will visit Pakistan soon

Guterres welcomed Islamabad's efforts to mediate between the United States and Iran during this conference and regarded Pakistan and Turkey as key mediators in diplomatic efforts to resolve the ongoing dispute. He emphasized that the continuation of conflicts and attacks on Gulf countries would have serious consequences for the region's economy and the global economy, and that such a situation cannot persist.


The UN Secretary-General stated that after the conflicting parties had previously reached a memorandum of understanding, the situation once again spiraled out of control, and the scope of the conflicts expanded. According to him, resolving the region's complex problems requires serious dialogue between the United States and Iran, as well as between Iran and the Gulf countries, and mediators can play a role in creating the groundwork for these dialogues.


Pakistan began its efforts to bring the two sides closer following the start of the war between the United States and Iran on February 28. In March, Islamabad hosted foreign ministers from several regional countries, and in April, it also facilitated direct talks between representatives of the United States and Iran. Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar also participated in parts of these diplomatic efforts.


This process ultimately led to the signing of a memorandum of understanding and the establishment of a 60-day temporary ceasefire; however, with the resumption of hostilities, the ceasefire ended, and subsequent negotiations were halted. Pakistan has since continued its diplomatic contacts with the conflicting parties and regional countries. Guterres has also stressed that there is no more sustainable option for ending the crisis than a peaceful resolution and reliance on diplomacy.



Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, has announced that he will soon visit the country at the invitation of the Government of Pakistan. He made these remarks on Thursday during a press conference but did not provide further details about the program for this trip.
