UN Fact-Finding Commission Calls for Immediate End to Repression of Protesters in Iran

In this statement, the use of any lethal force against protesters has been strongly condemned, and Iranian authorities have been urged to respect the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression.


The mission has also emphasized that all detained protesters must be unconditionally released.


The United Nations Fact-Finding Mission has specifically pointed to the "brutal" conduct of security forces in areas inhabited by ethnic minorities and has expressed serious concern regarding the situation in these areas.


Based on information from reputable human rights organizations, in the wake of violent responses by security forces in the provinces of Lorestan and Ilam, at least 13 people have lost their lives.


The mission has further stated that women, men, and children in Iran have the right to live in a secure environment, with their human dignity preserved and with full enjoyment of their fundamental rights, including the right to peaceful protest.


In another part of this statement, the United Nations Fact-Finding Mission has deemed any threat or act of military intervention by other countries to be contrary to the principles of international law and has emphasized the need for all parties to adhere to these principles.

The United Nations Fact-Finding Mission, in a statement, has called on the Islamic Republic of Iran to immediately end the violent suppression of protests and to restore citizens' access to the internet and telephone communications without delay.
