Trump: Territorial disputes between Ukraine and Russia still unresolved

He described the negotiations as difficult and complex and said that determining an exact timeline for reaching an agreement is not possible.


This meeting, which was held in Florida, was described by Trump as "constructive." Zelensky spoke of a complete agreement on U.S. security guarantees for Ukraine, while Trump, without providing a specific number, considered the extent of the agreement close to complete and warned that even unforeseen issues could disrupt the course of the talks.


The fate of eastern Ukraine's regions, especially Donbas, remains one of the main knots in the negotiations. Russia emphasizes the cession of these regions; however, Zelensky once again announced that Ukraine will not back down from its position of respect for the constitution and the will of its people. He said that any decision about territory is only possible through a referendum and the vote of the people.


On the international level, European leaders have welcomed the progress in the negotiations. The United Kingdom and the European Union announced that the talks are focused on achieving lasting peace and that Ukraine still needs strong security guarantees. Ursula von der Leyen assessed the course of the negotiations as "positive."


Trump also referred to the file on Russia's interference in the U.S. elections during this meeting and said that despite those tensions, his relationship with Vladimir Putin has been good. At the same time, Moscow also welcomed the peace efforts, and Putin's special representative announced that the world appreciates Trump's role in advancing peace talks.

Donald Trump announced after a recent meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky that differences over territorial issues between Ukraine and Russia have not yet been resolved; however, he expressed hope that a result could be reached in the coming weeks.
