Sima Bahous calls on new UNAMA chief to cooperate in protecting Afghan women's rights

Bahous, on Saturday, 28th of Virgonay (September), congratulated Rabab Fatema on her appointment as the new Head of UNAMA through a message posted on the social media platform X. She emphasized that, in the current sensitive situation, she is ready to collaborate with the new Head of UNAMA on supporting the rights of Afghan women.


The Head of the UN Women’s Section stated that this collaboration will aim to safeguard the rights of women and girls, create opportunities for their voices to be heard, and strengthen the leadership role of Afghan women and girls.


In response to this message, Rabab Fatema welcomed the continuation of collaborations and stated that she is undoubtedly eager to continue the good and constructive partnerships.


Rabab Fatema, a Bangladeshi diplomat, was appointed in July by UN Secretary-General António Guterres as the new Head of UNAMA and successor to Rosa Otunbayeva. She has not yet officially begun her work in this position.



Sima Bahous, Head of the UN Women’s Section, has asked Rabab Fatema, the new Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) office, to collaborate in supporting and safeguarding the rights of Afghan women and girls.
