Trump announces deadly US strike on ISIS positions in Nigeria

According to Trump, this operation was in response to the recent deadly attacks by this group and the widespread slaughter of Christians.


Trump stated on Thursday evening that ISIS has targeted Christian civilians with unprecedented violence in recent months and ignored prior Washington warnings. He emphasized that the United States had previously warned against the continuation of these attacks, and the recent military action is the fulfillment of those threats.


The U.S. President, referring to the execution of several "precise and successful" attacks by this country's Department of Defense, said that America under his leadership will not allow the expansion of "extremist Islamist terrorism." While expressing appreciation for the U.S. military forces, he warned that if ISIS attacks continue, a greater number of this group's forces will be targeted.


Prior to this, Trump had accused Nigeria of the "systematic slaughter of Christians" and ordered the suspension of humanitarian aid to this country. He had also asked the Pentagon to be fully prepared for potential military action.


At the same time, reports had emerged of an increase in U.S. reconnaissance flights over parts of Nigeria; flights that, according to informed sources, were aimed at gathering intelligence on the activities of extremist groups and are described as paving the way for the recent U.S. military attacks.
