Lavrov: Threats from Afghanistan continue to affect regional security

On Monday, during a meeting with Talgatbek Masadykov, Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, in Moscow, he said that emerging security challenges and threats—particularly the trends unfolding in Central Asia and Afghanistan—are at the top of this organization's agenda.


The Collective Security Treaty Organization is a regional military alliance comprising Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. According to its charter, any attack on one member is considered an attack on all members.


Afghanistan, following the Taliban's return to power, remains one of the sensitive security flashpoints for neighboring and regional countries, with its developments being closely monitored by regional actors.

Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, has stated that developments in Afghanistan and security threats in Central Asia have become one of the main focal points of regional security concerns.
