Former British Forces interpreter convicted of rape in Scotland

This individual, who had worked as an interpreter for British forces in Afghanistan prior to migrating to the United Kingdom, had become a taxi driver after arriving in the country. According to the case file, the incident occurred four years ago.


During the judicial proceedings, it was stated that Abdul Nabizada exhibited inappropriate behavior en route while transporting a 19-year-old woman in his taxi and repeatedly asked her to engage in sexual relations.


Based on documents presented in court, Nabizada, instead of taking the young woman to her destination, drove her to a secluded area in the Joppa district of Edinburgh and there, against her will, prevented her from leaving. The court stated that he took the victim's mobile phone, subjected her to physical assault, and then raped her.


The victim, during the court session, described the incident as a "very horrific" experience and said she had repeatedly asked the accused to stop his behavior. She added that after the incident, she had managed to get out of the vehicle, hide among the bushes nearby, and later confide in one of her relatives about the matter.


The accused had denied all charges and, in his defense, pointed to his work history as an interpreter for British forces and his migration to the United Kingdom in 2016.


Nevertheless, the jury, after reviewing the evidence, unanimously found him guilty. The judge, emphasizing the seriousness of the crime, declared that his name would be added to the sex offenders' register. Since the accused had no prior criminal record, the court ordered the preparation of a report on his background and circumstances prior to issuing the final sentence.

The High Court in Edinburgh, Scotland, has sentenced a 35-year-old Afghan citizen to prison on charges of raping a young woman.
