CENTCOM announces defensive operations of US forces in southern Iran

According to a Reuters news agency report, CENTCOM stated that American forces struck several targets, including missile launch sites and Iranian boats that were attempting to lay mines in the waters.

Tim Hawkins, spokesperson for CENTCOM, said that the United States, despite the continuation of the ceasefire, will continue to protect its forces and has shown restraint during this period.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Griffin, a Fox News correspondent, published fresh details of the incident on the social network X, quoting a senior U.S. official. According to her, two vessels affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps that were laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz were targeted and destroyed.

This U.S. official also stated that U.S. fighter jets attacked a ground-to-air missile system in Bandar Abbas—a system that, according to him, had targeted American aircraft.

Griffin, quoting two informed sources, wrote that these strikes were defensive in nature and do not mean the end of the ceasefire. In another post, she also announced that U.S. operations have currently been halted.

On the other side, Iranian state media have reported that a number of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps members were killed in these attacks. Reports state that several lives were lost in the strike on the Guard Corps' speedboats, but no precise casualty figures have been released, and only the names of four Guard Corps members have been mentioned.

Iranian media have also reported hearing explosions in Bandar Abbas and some coastal areas near the Strait of Hormuz. The Mehr News Agency reported that the situation in Bandar Abbas is under control and there are no particular concerns.

At the same time, the Tasnim News Agency has claimed that a missile struck the runway of Bandar Abbas Airport.

Additionally, reports have emerged of air defense systems being activated and their sounds being heard in several Iranian cities, including Andimeshk, Isfahan, Qom, and Babolsar.

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced that American forces in southern Iran have carried out military operations in the framework of self-defense.
