Lindsey Graham, Republican Senator and Supporter of US Military in Afghanistan, Dies

His media office has confirmed the death of this prominent politician.

Graham had been serving as the senator from South Carolina in the U.S. Senate since 2003 and was recognized among the leading figures of the Republican Party in the areas of foreign policy and security issues.

Before beginning his political career, he had served in the U.S. Air Force as a legal officer and reached the rank of colonel in the Air Force Reserve of the country.

This Republican senator was a supporter of continuing the U.S. military presence in Afghanistan and, during the Afghanistan war, backed the stationing of American forces in the country. After Joe Biden's decision to withdraw U.S. forces from Afghanistan, he became one of the fiercest critics of this action and had warned that a complete U.S. withdrawal could create conditions for the return of groups like al-Qaeda and ISIS.

Graham also held hardline positions in U.S. foreign policy and was among the senators who supported the U.S. government's belligerent approaches toward Iran. He was one of the influential Republican figures on matters related to national security and U.S. foreign policies.

At the start of Donald Trump's first presidential term, he was considered one of his fiercest critics; but in the years that followed, he became one of Trump's closest allies in Congress and supported his policies on security and foreign relations.

Lindsey Graham, the well-known Republican senator from the state of South Carolina in the United States, passed away at the age of 71 following a short and sudden illness.
