Taliban ask Iran for special discounts on oil and gas sales and technical cooperation

Nooruddin Azizi, the Taliban's Minister of Commerce, called for special discounts from Iran on energy sales to Afghanistan.


During the meetings, Mousavi announced Iran's readiness to enhance the technical capacity of Afghan refinery workers and increase exports of petroleum products and liquefied gas. The Taliban also emphasized maintaining the quality of petroleum products and obtaining more facilities for energy transit through Iran.


Abdul Rahman Qan'at, the Taliban's Deputy Minister of Mines, expressed interest in improving the quality of domestic refineries and training Afghan personnel. Iran has also provided opportunities for training Afghan engineers in the fields of oil, gas, and solid minerals.


Taliban officials announced that private companies and Iranian investors are interested in investing in the exploration, extraction, and processing of Afghanistan's mineral resources, and the Taliban are prepared to offer facilities to attract these investments.


Despite Afghanistan's rich reserves of copper, iron, lithium, and precious stones, the lack of infrastructure, international sanctions, and non-recognition of the Taliban have made the investment process challenging. Iran remains one of Afghanistan's most important fuel suppliers.

Seyyed Ali Mohammad Mousavi, Iran's Deputy Minister of Petroleum, has traveled to Kabul to discuss increasing exports of fuel and liquefied gas to Afghanistan with Taliban officials.
