Sirens sound in Riyadh; Explosions reported in Saudi capital

According to Iran's IRIB News Agency, citing Arabic sources, the issuance of these warnings came after a missile attack by Yemen's Houthis, and simultaneously, reports emerged of explosions heard in Riyadh.


Previously, the Saudi Civil Defense Authority had also announced the activation of the early warning system in the cities of Yanbu, Taif, Ula, and Jeddah. However, this is the first time since the escalation of clashes between Saudi Arabia and Yemen's Houthis that reports of warning sirens and explosions have come from Riyadh.


These developments follow an increase in Saudi Arabia's military operations in Yemen. After the Houthis took control of the Bab al-Mandab Strait and advanced in southern Yemen regions, Saudi Arabia has expanded the scope of its airstrikes in the country.


Yahya Sarea, the Houthi spokesperson, claimed last night that Saudi Arabia had carried out 26 airstrikes in various parts of Yemen over the past 24 hours. According to him, the number of Saudi airstrikes in the past week has exceeded 300.



The Saudi Civil Defense Authority has announced the activation of warning sirens in the city of Riyadh. This agency, in the early hours of Saturday, September 28, issued multiple warning messages to residents of Riyadh and the city of Al-Kharj in the southeast of the capital.
