Freedom Front: We killed a local Taliban commander in Nangarhar

According to a statement from the Freedom Front released on Sunday, the first of Virgonay (September 1), the attack took place around 2 p.m. on Saturday, the 31st of Asad (August 22), in Bati Kot district.


The front has described Dawoud Afzal as one of the Taliban’s influential local figures in Bati Kot and claimed that he was notorious for “oppression, extremism, and misogyny.” The statement notes that Afzal was the son of Maulvi Khorshid, a well-known Taliban figure in eastern Afghanistan.


The Freedom Front has not provided further details regarding the manner in which the ambush was carried out or the condition of the two wounded bodyguards.


The Taliban has not yet issued an official response regarding the killing of Mullah Dawoud Afzal or the Freedom Front’s claim about this attack, and this claim has not been independently verified.



The Freedom Front of Afghanistan has announced that Dawoud Afzal, one of the Taliban’s local commanders in Bati Kot district of Nangarhar, was killed as a result of an ambush by this front. The group has also stated that two of Afzal’s bodyguards were wounded during this attack.
