Israeli newspaper: Opinion polls of some officials confirm continuation of negotiations with Iran

According to this report, U.S. President Donald Trump, at the conclusion of this meeting, approved the continuation of negotiations with the Islamic Republic of Iran—contrary to the views of Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, but in line with the perspective of JD Vance and his special envoys.


The outlet writes that Rubio and Hegseth believed it was impossible to extract concessions from Tehran without applying serious pressure, including military threats and intensified sanctions. In contrast, Vance stated that Iran's new proposal could be a sign of flexibility and pave the way for an initial agreement.


The report continues that Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Trump's special envoys, also supported Vance's position. The two had held discussions with officials from Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia prior to the meeting.


According to *Israel Hayom*, the session grew tense when Trump criticized some members of his team, accusing them of an approach that could give Iran an opportunity to stall. In response, Vance emphasized that the focus should be on ending conflicts and returning to U.S. domestic issues.

The Israeli newspaper *Israel Hayom* reported, citing informed sources, that the White House meeting on Wednesday, May 20, regarding the Iran file was accompanied by serious disagreements among senior U.S. government officials.
