Shafiq Murid announces the closure of her private orphanage by the Taliban

Mr. Merid announced in a video clip on Sunday (January 27) that the Taliban had closed the orphanage without prior notice, confiscated its equipment, and transferred the orphaned children to facilities under their control. According to him, this action took place about two days earlier.


The singer says that the children were upset and distressed by this decision, and after being transferred to government centers, some of them were taken back by their guardians and sent to their relatives' homes.


He explained that these centers were not residential facilities for girls and that only boys had been transferred. The singer also expressed concern over the unemployment of 21 orphanage staff members.


Shafiq Merid, emphasizing his continued support for the children and their families, said that the closure of the orphanage does not mean the end of his humanitarian activities.


Meanwhile, the Taliban had previously announced that dozens of orphanages, including private centers, operate in the country—a matter that has consistently raised concerns about the manner of care and upbringing of orphaned children under Taliban management, particularly from an ideological perspective.

Shafiq Merid, the well-known Afghan singer, says that the Taliban, on the orders of Hibatullah Akhundzada, have shut down his private orphanage in Kabul city.
