The United States announced on Thursday that, instead of continuing its activities within the framework of the World Health Organization, it prefers to collaborate directly with various countries on disease surveillance and public health-related issues.

The World Health Organization has emphasized that the United States, as one of the founding members, has played a significant role in the historical successes of the body, including the eradication of smallpox and advances in the fight against diseases such as polio, AIDS, malaria, and Ebola.


Washington had previously accused the World Health Organization of mismanaging the COVID-19 pandemic—an accusation that the organization has deemed baseless, stressing that during the pandemic, it provided timely and transparent information to countries and issued its recommendations based on scientific evidence.


This United Nations-affiliated body has also rejected claims of politicization and favoritism toward the interests of specific countries, stating that under the management of its 194 member states, it operates impartially and with respect for the sovereignty of all countries.


The World Health Organization has announced that the matter of the United States' withdrawal will be examined in future meetings and has expressed hope that the United States will one day rejoin this international institution.
