Republican Front reports attack on vehicle carrying Taliban fighters in Kabul

The group stated in a press release that the incident occurred on Monday evening along Mazari Road, in the Tank-e-Teel area of Dasht-e-Barchi.


Meanwhile, sources have confirmed an explosion in Dasht-e-Barchi. According to these sources, a Taliban Ranger vehicle was the target of the blast.


It is said that the leadership of the "Afghan Republic Front" is headed by Taher Zuhair, the former governor of Bamyan. A source close to him said that the group began its activities about three months ago.


Zuhair continued guerrilla resistance against the Taliban for a time after the collapse of the previous Afghan government; however, he ultimately surrendered to the Taliban in Samangan province in May 2023.


After his surrender, the Taliban released a video of Taher Zuhair; however, it was unclear under what conditions this video was recorded. In the video, Zuhair stated that he had come to terms with the Taliban because, in his view, "war and violence are not the solution to Afghanistan's issue."


Nevertheless, the Republic Front has adopted a different stance in its recent statement, saying that the Taliban's policy of "elimination and enmity" toward the people has left no choice but armed struggle.


This claim comes amid reports in recent weeks of an increase in attacks by Taliban opposition groups in various parts of Afghanistan.


In multiple instances, groups including the National Resistance Front, United Front, Freedom Front, and Homeland Militia have claimed responsibility for attacks on Taliban forces. The Taliban has so far not confirmed details or casualty figures for many of these attacks.



A group known as the "Afghan Republic Front" has announced that it targeted a vehicle carrying a Taliban intelligence commander in western Kabul, claiming that two Taliban members were killed as a result of the attack.
