UNDP chief visits earthquake-hit areas of Nangarhar

De Croo announced on Monday, 15th of Saratan, by releasing a video of the trip, that approximately three-quarters of the people of Afghanistan face difficulties in meeting their basic living needs. According to him, this situation was clearly evident during his presence in the earthquake-affected areas.


The President of the United Nations Development Programme, referring to last year's devastating earthquake in Afghanistan that caused the destruction of many citizens' homes, said that this organization, in collaboration with local communities, is active in areas such as building shelters, creating flood-protection structures, and providing job opportunities to accelerate the reconstruction process and the return of people's lives to normal conditions.


He added that the goal of these programs is to increase community resilience, enable more effective reconstruction, and create the conditions for returning to stability. According to de Croo, while emergency and humanitarian aid is essential for saving human lives, development plays a fundamental role in creating stability and building a sustainable future.


At the same time, Brahim Ghali, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, along with Alexander de Croo, the President of the United Nations Development Programme, arrived in Kabul on Sunday.


The Taliban's Ministry of Refugees and Repatriates also announced in a statement that this United Nations delegation has traveled to Kabul with the aim of examining and assessing the situation and problems of the people of Afghanistan.

Alexander de Croo, the President of the United Nations Development Programme, who has arrived in Afghanistan as part of an official trip, visited the Darah-ye Noor district of Nangarhar province—one of the areas affected by the earthquake—on Sunday, 14th of Saratan. During this visit, he stated that the United Nations is working to support the people in creating the conditions for sustainable development and strengthening stability in local communities.
