Sources: About 70 people arrested in Ghor following dispute over 'Vasha' plant

According to these sources, four days have passed since the detention of these individuals; however, their families still have no information about their place of detention or their condition, and no contact has been established with the detainees.


Sources on Monday, June 15, stated that this incident occurred following tensions and clashes last week over the harvesting of the mountain plant "vasha." According to them, the Taliban invited a number of tribal elders and local representatives to Firozkoh, the capital of Ghor Province, for talks; but those who attended the meeting did not return to their homes after arriving in Firozkoh.


Based on available information, no news has been released about the fate of these individuals since their transfer, and their families continue to live in uncertainty.


Taliban officials have not yet commented on the detention of these individuals or the incidents related to the recent clashes in Tyora district.


Local sources had previously reported that in the Zarbay market, a dispute and clash arose between some local residents and a group of people who had come from Helmand Province over the collection of the rare plant "vasha."


According to these sources, the individuals who had come to the area to harvest this plant were supported by the Taliban. They also claim that the Taliban intervened in this dispute and, by taking sides with one party, created the conditions for the violence to escalate.


According to the same reports, Taliban forces opened fire on the protesting local residents, resulting in at least five people being wounded.


The mountain plant "vasha" is considered one of the valuable natural products of this region, and every year many families from villages in Tyora district head to the mountains to collect it. The income from selling this plant covers a significant portion of the living expenses for a large number of local residents.

Local sources in Ghor Province say that Taliban intelligence forces have detained around 70 elders and residents of Zarbay village in the Tyora district and neighboring areas after summoning them to a meeting.
