Insecurity Continues; 14 Killed in Suicide Attack on House of Pakistan Peoples Party Leader

According to Pakistani media reports, the incident occurred on Wednesday, but Pakistan's security agencies released details of it on Friday.

Based on information provided by police and security officials, the attack began with the detonation of a suicide bomber at the main gate of the house. The explosion destroyed the entrance gate and cleared the way for the other attackers to enter. Following that, several armed individuals stormed the compound and opened indiscriminate fire.

Security forces stationed at the scene immediately engaged the attackers in a firefight. Pakistani media, citing security sources, reported that the confrontation lasted about three hours, and in the end, all five attackers were killed during the security forces' operation.

Sarfraz Bugti, the Chief Minister of Balochistan, condemned the attack and stated that the government, the people, and Pakistan's security institutions are committed to combating terrorism and defeating it.

Mirshafiq-ur-Rahman Mengal had previously been targeted in an attack as well. In an assault that took place in December 2011, 13 people were killed and around 30 others wounded; however, Mengal and his family members survived that incident too. At the time, the Balochistan Liberation Army claimed responsibility for that attack.

Mirshafiq-ur-Rahman Mengal, a leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party and a prominent tribal figure in Khuzdar, Balochistan, survived a suicide and armed attack on his home—an assault that resulted in the deaths of at least 14 people, including five police officers, while five attackers were also killed in the clash with security forces.
