Heavy snowfall; Taliban announce closure of Salang, Bamyan and Daikundi routes

Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, spokesman for the Taliban's Ministry of Public Works, wrote in a press release on Thursday, 16 Dalwa, that the Salang Highway has been temporarily closed to passenger and cargo vehicles.


The Taliban's Public Works Department in Daykundi also announced that several roads in the province, including the Kabul–Daykundi route in the Qonagh Pass area, have been closed due to heavy snowfall. According to this press release, the routes from Khadir and Kiti districts to Nili, the capital of Daykundi province, are also closed.


Similarly, local Taliban officials in Bamyan announced that the route from this province to Kabul in Jaji Gak Pass, as well as the roads in the Panjab and Yakawlang areas, have been closed due to heavy snowfall and storms. According to them, the Bamyan–Daykundi route remains closed in the Qonagh Pass area as well.

The Taliban's Ministry of Public Works announced that the Salang route was closed to traffic around 5 p.m. on Thursday due to heavy snowfall, storms, and reduced visibility. At the same time, local Taliban officials in Bamyan and Daykundi provinces have also reported the closure of several transportation routes.
