Afghan Journalists Center calls for reopening of Lapis office in Kabul

According to information received by the center from its sources, Taliban intelligence forces entered the Lapis office in Kabul's Wazir Akbar Khan area on Wednesday, halted its operations, and ordered employees to leave their workplace. According to this report, several pieces of equipment, including computers and data storage disks, were also seized by intelligence forces. The source added that the company's file will be sent to court following further investigations.


"Hindokush Voice," a media outlet affiliated with Taliban intelligence, stated that the reason for closing Lapis was the publication of "obscene and immoral content." This media outlet claimed that Lapis broadcast songs by artists, concerts, and some video content with themes and a "Western style." Hindokush Voice also said that several senior managers and employees of Lapis have left Afghanistan, while others are being pursued.


The Afghanistan Journalists Center has warned that the shutdown of Lapis may also affect the activities of media outlets affiliated with this company. Expressing concern over the increasing pressures and restrictions on media, the center has urged the Taliban to halt restrictive actions against media outlets.


This organization has also emphasized that Lapis employees should be able to resume their professional activities without "restrictions and fear of arrest." The Afghanistan Journalists Center considers the closure of this company another sign of escalating pressure on Afghanistan's media landscape and has called for the lifting of the imposed restrictions.

The center warned on Friday, September 6, that such actions are part of a concerning trend of restricting and undermining media activities in Afghanistan.
