Pashtun cultural figures: All Afghan languages ​​are part of a common national heritage

This statement was issued by 10 prominent Pashtun literary and cultural figures, including Abdul Bari Jahani, Habibullah Rafi, Abdul Ghafur Liwal, and Pir Mohammad Karwan. They warned that inflammatory discussions about languages could harm national unity.


This reaction came after Lutfullah Hakimi, the chief inspector of the Taliban's Ministry of Defense, stated that Dari Persian and Pashto are official languages, but only Pashto is the national language of Afghanistan. These remarks drew widespread criticism from social media users and cultural activists.


The signatories of the statement said that Afghanistan's linguistic and cultural diversity is a shared heritage and should not become a source of division. They also stressed that languages grow through literature, research, translation, and scientific activities, and that language issues should be examined in an appropriate context.


These cultural figures added that in the current situation, addressing the people's problems is more important than linguistic disputes. They called for avoiding meaningless conflicts and emphasized that Afghanistan needs cooperation and national solidarity to overcome its existing crises.



A number of prominent Pashtun writers and cultural figures, in response to remarks by a Taliban official about the status of languages, emphasized that all languages spoken in Afghanistan are part of the national culture and shared heritage of the country's people.
