Russia-Ukraine war; UN says 15,800 people killed in war

Kyoko Goto, Director of the Europe and Central Asia Division in the UN Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, told the UN Security Council on Tuesday that "the real numbers are likely much higher than these figures."


Russia's attacks on Ukraine on Tuesday left at least six people dead. In response, in Russia, Alexander Shuvayev, the acting governor of the Belgorod region, said that in a Ukrainian drone attack on the village of Borisovka over the past 24 hours, two people were killed and six were injured.


Meanwhile, peace talks between Ukraine and Russia have stalled. Previously, Donald Trump, President of the United States, had said he was working to mediate an end to this war and had announced a three-day ceasefire earlier this month; however, the fighting has resumed.

The United Nations has announced that since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, 15,800 people, including 800 children, have been killed.
