Taliban officials arrested at least 520 people in the last three months of 2025

According to the report, during the same period, at least 50 cases of mistreatment of women and men by Taliban Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice agents were also documented; cases that, according to UNAMA, have raised serious human rights concerns.


UNAMA also addressed the situation of female UN staff in Afghanistan in another section of the report, stating that the Taliban continue to prevent women from being present in the organization's offices.


According to the report, the Taliban have prohibited Afghan women from entering UN offices across the country since September 7 of the previous calendar year; a restriction that remains in place.


The United Nations has added that Afghan female staff are currently performing their duties from home or through alternative methods, and at the same time, efforts and advocacy to lift these restrictions continue.


Meanwhile, sources in the UN office in Kabul had previously stated that individuals affiliated with the Taliban have pursued female staff of the organization and threatened them with death. The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has stated in its latest quarterly report that Taliban Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice agents arbitrarily detained at least 520 people from October 1 to December 31, 2025.
