Canada's Conservative Leader: Sacrifice of Canadian Forces in Afghanistan Must Not Be Forgotten

In response to recent statements by Donald Trump, he stated that Canada, following the September 11 attacks, actively participated for more than fourteen years alongside its allies on the front lines of the fight against terrorism, and tens of thousands of this country's military personnel carried out missions in Afghanistan's most dangerous regions.


According to Poilievre, the presence of Canadian forces was not merely a military mission, but rather a serious commitment to defending shared values, international security, and supporting allies—a commitment accompanied by the loss of 158 soldiers and injuries to thousands of others.


The leader of Canada's Conservatives has stressed that these sacrifices must not be overlooked, and international partners, particularly the United States, are obligated to respect the dedication of Canadian forces.


He further added that the consequences of the war for many soldiers did not end with the conclusion of the missions, and a large number of them are still grappling with serious psychological and physical problems—an issue that underscores the responsibility of the Canadian government and its allies to provide sustained support for these forces.


Poilievre regards the sacrifices of Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan as a clear symbol of national values, global responsibility, and international cooperation, emphasizing that this chapter of history must not be forgotten or diminished.
