Taliban: About 700 mines to be activated in Panjshir

In an interview with the Taliban-controlled National Television, he remarked that in addition to lapis lazuli, ruby, and other precious stones, approximately 1,700 emerald mines have also been identified in Panjshir.


According to the Taliban's governor, the management of mining activities in this province is carried out by various committees affiliated with the Taliban's administration, and all Panjshir mines are fully at the disposal of this administration.


Hafiz Mohammad Agha Hakim also, referring to the existing economic capacities in Panjshir, invited domestic and foreign investors to invest in the mining sector for the exploitation of this province's mineral resources.


In contrast, experts believe that since the Taliban's return to power, the extraction of mines in Afghanistan has continued extensively without oversight from independent institutions, financial transparency, and adherence to environmental requirements.


Meanwhile, a number of Afghan citizens have expressed concern over what they call the "plundering of natural resources" of the country, the handover of mines to the benefit of a specific group, and the transfer of extracted materials abroad.


Additionally, Foreign Policy magazine reported in the month of Hamal 1403 that 14 groups affiliated with al-Qaeda benefit from the revenue generated by mining under Taliban control.

The Taliban's governor in Panjshir Province has announced that the extraction process from approximately 700 mines in this province is currently actively ongoing. Hafiz Mohammad Agha Hakim stated that all of these mines are under the full control and supervision of the Taliban's administration.
