UN: Continuing ban on girls' education paints a painful picture of Afghanistan's future

UNAMA stated in a declaration on Wednesday (February 22) that the International Day of Women and Girls in Science is being observed with profound sorrow in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan; for more than four years have passed, and girls and women continue to be deprived of participation in scientific fields and other vital sectors.


The UN Assistance Mission once again called on the Taliban to lift the ban on education and schooling for girls and women above the sixth grade and allow them to return to school and university.


The UN General Assembly, in 2015 AD, designated the International Day of Women and Girls in Science to promote their equal participation in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.


The United Nations has described the purpose of designating this day as promoting women's full and equal access to science and strengthening their role in development and technology.

On February 11, International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan announced that 1,607 days have passed since the Taliban imposed a ban on girls' education and schooling, and this situation paints a painful picture of Afghanistan's future.
