"End Gender Apartheid" campaign launched to protest the situation of Afghan women

The goal of this campaign is to draw the attention of the international community to the ongoing systematic discrimination against women and girls in Afghanistan.


The Coordination Association of Active Women of Afghanistan has announced that nearly 500 women from more than 30 provinces are participating in this campaign. The association stated that the participating women have joined this movement to amplify their voices of protest, fully aware of the serious risks involved.


Putony Taishman, head of the European Integration Institute and founder of the Coordination Association of Active Women of Afghanistan, described the purpose of launching this campaign as exposing the systematic oppression of women and girls in Afghanistan and demanding concrete action from the international community to end what is referred to as "gender apartheid."


In a note on its Instagram page, accompanied by images of the women participating in this campaign, the association wrote that each of these women knew that being seen could put their lives at risk; yet they refused to remain silent and accepted the danger.


One of the statements from this organization noted that over the more than four years of Taliban rule, there has been no improvement in the situation of women and girls in Afghanistan, and they have been gradually excluded from public life.


The organizers of this campaign have warned that the continuation of this situation could place an entire generation of Afghan girls at risk of illiteracy, isolation, and deprivation from their future.


This campaign has been launched at a time when, over the past more than four years, the Taliban have imposed extensive restrictions on the education, work, and social presence of women and girls, and to date, there has been no sign of change or reduction in these policies.

The "End Gender Apartheid" campaign has been launched with widespread participation from Afghan women; a campaign that, according to its organizers, has been joined by hundreds of women from various provinces across the country despite security threats.
