Women continue to be arrested in Herat; Eight women arrested by Taliban in Jibraeel area

According to witnesses, a group of Taliban agents, among whom five women were also present, detained these eight young women in one of the busy sections of the Jibrail market. Witnesses emphasize that these women were fully veiled in terms of their attire and hijab.


This incident is a continuation of the actions that the Taliban have initiated to crack down on women who, in the view of this group, do not observe the hijab they deem appropriate.


It is said that this wave of arrests began on Saturday in the city of Herat. Residents of the city have reported that on the first day, dozens of young women were detained by the Taliban for wearing a manteau or not having a face veil.


During the operations on Saturday, a number of women were arrested from markets, shopping centers, and busy streets of Herat city and transferred from the scene.

Local sources in Herat say that the process of arresting women by the Taliban's Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in this city continued on Sunday as well. According to these reports, eight women in the Jibrail area of Herat were detained by Taliban forces and transferred to an unknown location.
